PSG Wins Champions League and Takes Top Awards

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have made history by winning the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the 2024/25 season. The French club played very well and won many of the big awards this year. Their players were the stars of the competition and showed everyone how good they are.

The Champions League final was played in Munich, Germany. PSG played against Inter Milan and won the match 5-0. This was a big win and fans in Lagos, Nigeria, and all over the world are talking about it. PSG’s teamwork, strong defence, and fast attack helped them win the trophy.

One of the best players this season was Ousmane Dembele. He was named Player of the Season by UEFA. Dembele scored eight goals during the tournament. In the final, he did not score, but he gave two important assists and worked very hard for his team.

UEFA said, 

“Dembele has taken on the role of a leader in the Paris Saint-Germain team, as we saw in the final with how he worked so hard, pressing from the front.”

 They also said, “He created doubts for their opponents match after match with his clever movement, dropping deep to give his team superiority in the midfield.”

Dembele’s coach, Luis Enrique, was very happy with him and said,

 “I’d give the Ballon d’Or to Ousmane Dembele, simply for the way he defends.”

 Many people now think Dembele could win the Ballon d’Or, which is the award for the best football player in the world.

Another young PSG player, Desire Doue, also did very well. He was named Young Player of the Season. Doue is only 18 years old. He was not always in the starting team, but he played very well in the knockout stages.

In the final, he scored two goals and gave an assist. He became the first teenager to score twice in a Champions League final.

UEFA said,

 “Doue has been a revelation this season… producing a Player of the Match performance on Saturday night.”

The top goalscorers of the Champions League this season were Raphinha from Barcelona and Serhou Guirassy from Borussia Dortmund. Both players scored 13 goals each. Raphinha also gave many assists and was one of the best players for Barcelona.

UEFA also picked their Team of the Season. Seven PSG players made it into the team. This shows how strong PSG was this year.

The team included: Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG) as the goalkeeper; Achraf Hakimi (PSG), Marquinhos (PSG), Alessandro Bastoni (Inter Milan), and Nuno Mendes (PSG) as defenders; Vitinha (PSG) and Declan Rice (Arsenal) in midfield; and the forwards were Lamine Yamal (Barcelona), Desire Doue (PSG), Ousmane Dembele (PSG), and Raphinha (Barcelona).

UEFA said, 

“We’ve made this selection of players, particularly in the attack, to reflect the exceptional mobility which was such a feature of the victorious Paris Saint-Germain team’s approach.”

This season, PSG showed that they are now one of the best football teams in Europe. They worked hard, played together, and never gave up. Their victory is a big inspiration for young footballers in Nigeria and around the world. Many young players now dream of becoming like Dembele and Doue.

To sum up, Ousmane Dembele is the Player of the Season, Desire Doue is the Young Player of the Season, Raphinha and Serhou Guirassy are the top goalscorers, and PSG had the most players in the Team of the Season. The 2024/25 Champions League will always be remembered as the year PSG finally became champions of Europe.
