Peter Obi Says 2027 May Be His Last Presidential Race.

Labour Party leader hints at retirement from politics after next election

Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has revealed that the 2027 general election might be his final time contesting for the presidency. Obi made this known in a video that recently went viral on social media, where he spoke openly about his future in politics and the reasons why he may step back after 2027.

Obi, who is currently 63 years old, explained that age and the realities of Nigerian politics are making him think about retirement. He said that by 2027, he will be 65, and he believes there should be a retirement age for politicians. Obi pointed out that if the presidency moves to the North in 2031, it may not return to the South until 2039. By then, he would be 77 years old, which he feels is too old to be running for president.

In his words,

“I believe we should have a retirement age for politicians. By 2027, I will be 65. If the presidency goes back to the North in 2031, it may not return to the South until 2039 — by then, I will be 77. I wouldn’t want to run for office at that age. It would make a mess of everything.”

Obi’s media aide, Umar Ibrahim, confirmed that the video was recent and that Obi was speaking honestly about his future plans. Despite hinting at retirement, Obi made it clear that he will still contest in 2027 under the Labour Party. He also addressed young Nigerians, saying he will always support those who are committed to real change, even if he is not running for office himself.

Obi said, “Even if I’m not contesting, I will always support those of you who are committed to real change, with whatever resources I can provide.”

The former governor of Anambra State also spoke about the problems facing political parties in Nigeria. He believes that many of the issues in the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are caused by government interference. Obi said he wants to fix these problems if given the chance, so that political parties can work better and Nigeria can have a strong opposition.

Obi’s message has sparked conversations among his supporters and the general public. Many people respect his honesty about age and leadership, while others hope he will continue to play a role in Nigerian politics, whether as a candidate or a mentor.

As the 2027 election approaches, Peter Obi 2027 election campaign will be watched closely by Nigerians who are looking for real change and new leadership. Obi has promised to keep supporting the youth and the movement for a better Nigeria, no matter what happens after 2027.
