A public dispute has erupted among the children of legendary Nigerian juju musician, King Sunny Ade (KSA), over his well-being and whereabouts.
The controversy began when Damilola Esther, one of KSA’s daughters, took to social media to express grave concerns about her father’s safety. In a series of posts, she alleged that her stepbrother, Dayo Adegeye, was holding their father against his will and mismanaging his affairs. She claimed that KSA was being forced to perform at events without honoring engagements and was being denied access to his phones and online accounts. Damilola also accused Dayo of financial exploitation, stating;
“I want Dayo (manager) apprehended. I want him to provide all the money they have been stealing from him.”
In response, Dayo Adegeye denied the allegations, asserting that his father was in good health and actively performing. He clarified that he was not KSA’s official manager but was assisting him temporarily. Dayo explained that due to certain circumstances, he had been helping his father manage his affairs and that KSA was comfortable with this arrangement. He emphasized that the accusations were baseless and urged the public to disregard them.
To further address the situation, King Sunny Ade released a video confirming his well-being. In the video, shared by his wife, Mrs. Bose Olubo-Adegeye, KSA stated;
“I am alive and well. I was not kidnapped. I am safe and sound.”
He attributed the confusion to his recent absence, explaining that he had taken some time off to rest, which led to concerns among his children. He thanked his fans for their support and reassured them that he was continuing with his music career.
The controversy has drawn attention from fans and the public, with many expressing concern over the family’s internal conflict and its potential impact on KSA’s legacy. As of now, King Sunny Ade has not publicly addressed the allegations.
