Apple Set to Use AI in September Update to Boost iPhone Battery Life for All Users

New iPhone software update to use artificial intelligence to improve battery life and phone performance

Global technology giant, Apple Inc., has revealed plans to deploy artificial intelligence (AI) to address one of the most persistent complaints among iPhone users — poor battery life.

According to a report published by Bloomberg, the new AI-driven feature will be introduced as part of iOS 19, the next major iPhone software update expected to roll out in September 2025.

The report, which cited sources familiar with Apple’s internal plans, disclosed that the company is currently developing a feature that will intelligently manage battery life by learning from each user’s phone habits. The system, powered by Apple’s recently branded suite of tools known as “Apple Intelligence, will analyse how people use their devices and adjust background activities in real time to extend battery duration.

“The idea is to make the phone smarter in managing power so users can get more out of their battery without doing anything themselves,” one source told Bloomberg.

The AI feature is expected to automatically reduce energy-draining processes and scale down non-essential activities during periods of low power. It will also include a new lock-screen indicator that shows how long it will take for the phone to fully charge, helping users better plan their charging time — a useful upgrade particularly in regions like Nigeria where electricity supply is often unstable.

The upgrade will be useful particularly here in Nigeria where electricity supply is often unstable.

Sources indicate that the upcoming iPhone 17, which is expected to be slimmer than its predecessors, will be one of the key devices benefiting from this technology. The phone is believed to feature a smaller battery due to its thinner design, and Apple’s AI solution is aimed at compensating for this limitation through smarter power management.

However, Apple confirmed that the AI-powered battery feature will not be limited to the new iPhone 17. It will also be available to all iPhones that support iOS 19, ensuring that users of older but compatible models will also benefit from the update.

This move is part of Apple’s broader strategy to deepen AI integration across its ecosystem as it competes with other technology leaders like Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI.

As part of its first wave of AI tools under the Apple Intelligence umbrella, Apple has already introduced features such as “smart text editing,” “notification summaries,” “custom emoji creation,” and the ability to “remove unwanted objects from photos.”

Beyond the iPhone, the AI-powered tools will gradually expand to other Apple devices, including the iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. While the Apple Watch may not have the processing capacity to run complex AI models, it will still benefit from “lighter tools powered by Apple Intelligence, according to insiders.

It is said that ios 19 will come with a redesigned user interface, codenamed “SALARIUM”.

In addition to software improvements, iOS 19 will come with a redesigned user interface, codenamed “Solarium”, which draws inspiration from bright, sunlit glass rooms. Apple’s objective is to offer a more unified experience across its devices, especially between iPads and Macs.

Another practical feature set to be introduced is the ability for iPhones to “automatically connect to Wi-Fi networks that require browser-based logins. This update is expected to resolve a long-standing frustration faced by users attempting to access Wi-Fi in public locations such as hotels, airports, and schools.

While anticipation builds for iOS 19, Apple on Monday released iOS 18.5, a minor update focused on bug fixes and general performance enhancements. The company is also preparing to launch iOS 18.6, which is expected to introduce Apple Intelligence features to users in China.
