EFCC Boss Speaks on Nigeria’s Fight Against Internet Fraud
Olanipekun Olukoyede Shares Update on “Yahoo-Yahoo” Crackdown

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is stepping up its fight against internet fraud, popularly known as “Yahoo-Yahoo” in Nigeria. The Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Olanipekun Olukoyede, has renewed the commission’s commitment to cleaning up the country’s internet space and ensuring that fraudsters face the full weight of the law.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, Olukoyede made it clear that the EFCC is not resting on its oars.
“We are not joking with this fight against ‘Yahoo-Yahoo’,” he declared.
“Every day, our officers are working tirelessly to track down these criminals, arrest them, and make sure they are prosecuted. No one involved in this crime will be spared.”
Olukoyede explained that the EFCC is now using advanced technology and intelligence-gathering tools to stay ahead of fraudsters who are always changing their tactics.
“We have upgraded our systems and now have the ability to monitor online activities in real-time,” he said. “This means we can see what these criminals are planning and stop them before they even carry out their scams.”
The EFCC boss also highlighted the importance of collaboration in the fight against internet fraud. “We are working closely with banks, telecom companies, and even international partners,” he noted.
“This partnership is key because fraudsters use different platforms to carry out their crimes. By working together, we can block their accounts, trace their calls, and make sure they have nowhere to hide.”
Olukoyede called on all Nigerians to join the fight by reporting any suspicious online activities in their communities.
“If you see something, say something,” he urged. “Your report can help us save someone from losing their hard-earned money. We need the support of every Nigerian to win this battle.”
He also addressed young Nigerians who may be tempted to join cybercrime for quick money. “There is no future in ‘Yahoo-Yahoo’,” he warned.
“If you get caught, you will go to jail and your life will be ruined. It is better to find honest work and build a good name for yourself and your family.”
The EFCC Chairman shared stories of recent arrests and prosecutions to show that the commission is serious about its mission.
“Just last week, we arrested a group of fraudsters in Lagos who were using fake online businesses to trick people into sending them money,” he revealed.
“We are tracking more cases every day, and we will continue to arrest and prosecute anyone involved in these crimes.”
He also mentioned that the EFCC is educating the public about the dangers of internet fraud through workshops, radio programs, and social media campaigns.
“We want Nigerians to be aware of the tricks these criminals use so they can protect themselves,” he said. “Knowledge is power, and we are doing everything we can to empower our people.”
In his closing remarks, Olanipekun Olukoyede assured Nigerians that the EFCC will not stop until the country is safe for everyone to do business online. “We will not stop until we win this battle,” he promised. “Nigeria must be known for good things, not for fraud. We are committed to making sure that our country’s name is respected around the world.”
