Veteran Actor Alapini Regrets Supporting Tinubu – Laments Unrecognised Campaign Efforts

Yoruba Film Star Speaks Out on Economic Hardship, Calls Out President’s Son for Neglecting Southwest

Veteran Nigerian actor Ganiu Nofiu, popularly known as Alapini, has openly expressed regret for campaigning for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election. Speaking in a new interview on ‘African A-List’, Alapini said he and hundreds of his colleagues from the Yoruba movie industry put aside their work for two months to support Tinubu.

“We campaigned for Tinubu because of his past good works in Lagos and for the Yoruba film industry. We believed he was our messiah who would bring positive change for Nigerians,” Alapini explained. He added, “We did all this out of love for our country and not for personal gain.”

However, the actor said he now regrets his decision because, “Up till now, we have not been compensated or recognised for our efforts.”

He pointed to the rising economic hardship and insecurity across Nigeria as reasons for his disappointment.

Alapini also raised concerns about the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu.

“Seyi Tinubu is running around the northern part of Nigeria to pay hospital bills. Aren’t there sick people in Yoruba land too?” he asked. “How many hospitals has he visited in the southwest?”

He continued, “Will Seyi Tinubu say he didn’t see the old actors during the campaign? We were more than 100, both old and young, who walked around campaigning without being given anything for it.”

The actor’s comments reflect the frustration of many entertainers who feel let down after supporting political leaders. “We did all of this out of love, but now we feel neglected,” he concluded.

This interview highlights the growing concerns among Nigerian celebrities about the rewards—or lack thereof—for their political support, especially in the face of current national challenges
