Shagari: North Will Support Tinubu in 2027 Because He Is Doing Well.
Former Sokoto Deputy Governor says Tinubu deserves a second term for his achievements.
Muktar Shagari, a former deputy governor of Sokoto State, has said that President Bola Tinubu is doing a good job and will get strong support from the North in the 2027 presidential election. Shagari made these comments during an interview on Arise Television, where he spoke about Tinubu’s performance and the recent decision by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to endorse Tinubu for a second term.
Shagari explained that many people in the North believe President Tinubu is working hard, especially in the area of security. He said that since Tinubu became president, there have been improvements in security in places like Sokoto and other parts of the North. According to Shagari, these positive changes are making more people in the region support the president.
He said,
“In the north, we have nothing against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He’s doing very well in the area of security. I can tell you, security is getting better and better. And there are so many things that he is doing. So as far as I’m concerned and as far as we are all concerned in the APC, we are going to support Tinubu, and I feel confident that he will win the election in 2027.”
Shagari also talked about the economy and other challenges Nigeria is facing. He admitted that things have not been easy, but he said Tinubu is taking tough decisions to fix the country. Shagari believes that some of these decisions may not be popular now, but they are necessary for Nigeria’s long-term progress.
He added that the APC’s decision to endorse Tinubu for a second term is both constitutional and smart. Shagari explained that it is common in Nigerian politics for a sitting president to get the “right of first refusal” from his party, meaning the party supports him to run again without much competition from within.
According to Shagari,
“The President is doing everything he can to make this country better, and results are now being seen that the country is gradually moving, and I believe we’ll get there. So for President Tinubu to be able to implement the programs he promised Nigerians, he needs a second term, and we in the APC believe in him, and we believe that he has the ability and capability to do that.”
Shagari also responded to critics who say Tinubu may not be popular in the North. He insisted that most northerners have no problem with the president and will give him the support he needs to win. He said the party’s move to back Tinubu early is to avoid unnecessary distractions and to allow the president to focus on his plans for Nigeria.
He concluded by saying that the APC will give Tinubu all the moral and political support he needs to win the 2027 election, and he is confident that the president will be successful.
