Labour Party Confident of Victory in Lagos Local Government Elections.
Party promises positive change at the grassroots, urges fair play ahead of July 12 polls

The Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State has expressed strong confidence about its chances in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for July 12, 2025. The party believes that if the elections are conducted fairly, its candidates will perform well across the state’s local councils.
Mr. Olusupo Ajayi, Deputy Chairman of the Lagos State Labour Party, shared this optimism during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). He highlighted that the party’s recent primaries were peaceful and successful, with 26 chairmanship candidates emerging from the Julius Abure-led faction to contest in the elections across 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas.
Ajayi pointed to the Labour Party’s strong showing in the 2023 presidential election as a sign of continued public support. “Remember, we had the highest number of votes in Lagos during the last presidential election,” he said, adding that many Lagos residents still believe in the party’s vision for positive change.
“This is a grassroots election, and we want to bring real change to local communities, even though we know it will not be easy running against the ruling party,” Ajayi explained.
He assured that the LP would campaign within the law, mobilising voters and running a strong campaign in every local area. The party’s goal, he said, is to return governance to the grassroots and restore people’s faith in politics. Ajayi also promised that if the party wins, it will keep working closely with the public to ensure community-based leadership and development.
Ajayi called on the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) and its chairperson, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, to ensure the elections are free, fair, and peaceful. He urged her to protect her legacy by upholding integrity throughout the process. “At the end of the day, we all leave this world. What matters is the goodwill we leave behind for our children and future generations. I hope she keeps her good name so her legacy can last for years to come,” Ajayi said.
The Labour Party’s participation in the local government elections is part of a broader effort to make politics more meaningful and accountable at the community level. With a focus on transparency, grassroots engagement, and positive change, the party is determined to give Lagos residents a real choice in the upcoming polls.
