AC Milan Sack Coach Conceicao After Poor Season, Allegri Tipped for Return

Club thanks Conceicao for his efforts as Italian media link ex-boss Allegri with dramatic comeback to San Siro

AC Milan have sacked their Portuguese coach, Sergio Conceicao, after just six months in charge. The Italian football giants made the announcement on Thursday, thanking Conceicao and his staff for their “commitment, professionalism and dedication” during their short stay.

Conceicao, who joined Milan last December, could not turn things around for the club. He managed to win the Italian Super Cup in his early days.

but Milan still finished “eighth in Serie A,” missing out on European football. He also led Milan to the Coppa Italia final, but they lost “1-0 to Bologna” on May 14.

The club said in a statement on their website:

AC Milan and Sergio Conceicao will not continue their journey together next season. The club would like to thank Sergio and his staff for their commitment, professionalism and dedication shown during their time leading the First Team over the past few months.

Conceicao, a former Inter Milan and Lazio player, was expected to stay until the end of next season. However, rumours had been circulating that Milan would let him go after a “disappointing campaign.”

Out of 31 games in charge, Conceicao won “16,” lost “10,” and drew “5.” In the league, he managed “11 wins, 7 losses, and 3 draws.” The team was already in “eighth place” when he took over and finished the season in the same position.

After the Coppa Italia final defeat, Milan defender Matteo Gabbia did not hide his disappointment. He said,

Quite simply it’s been a bad season. We weren’t able to give our best. We were hoping for more, better from a team given how much talent it has.

Italian media are now linking Massimiliano Allegri with a shock return to AC Milan.

Allegri, who is 57 years old, led Milan to their last Serie A title in 2011 and later won five more league titles with Juventus.

Reports say Milan’s new sporting director, Igli Tare, is pushing to bring Allegri back to the San Siro.

Fans are hoping that Allegri’s experience and winning mentality will help Milan bounce back after a tough season. For now, the club and its supporters are waiting to see if Allegri will be the man to restore Milan’s glory.
